Associate Vice-President, Public Affairs
Barry is an associate vice-president at Leger’s Edmonton office. He joined Leger in 1999, preceded by experience as a marketing research analyst in the Vancouver area. Barry has worked with clients in a variety of sectors, including all levels of government, post-secondary institutions, financial services, retail, marketing and communications, regulatory agencies, associations and not-for-profits. The topics of Barry’s projects have ranged from healthcare and education to public transit and waste management, involving the public and many different stakeholder perspectives.
While well-versed in all aspects of the research process, Barry particularly enjoys the planning and design phase of projects – working with clients to determine the best approach and methodology to meet their objectives and accomplishing this within the given time, budget or other constraints. In doing so, Barry often implements innovative approaches, including online communities, bulletin board discussions, world cafés, advanced analytics and interactive dashboard reporting.
Barry holds an MBA degree from McMaster University and a BA (Political Science) from UBC. In 2019, he obtained his Certified Analytics and Insights Professional (CAIP) designation, replacing the CMRP designation he first obtained in 2008. He is a professional member of the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC), ESOMAR, IAP2, Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Alberta, and the Advertising Club of Edmonton (ACE). He has completed formal professional development training from the MRIA, IAP2 and the Canadian Evaluation Society (CES). He has also authored presentations and articles featured in periodicals and at conferences and other events. In addition, Barry is a regularly scheduled guest speaker at post-secondary institutions.
