COVID-19 SURVEY

Conducted in collaboration with the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) and published in the Canadian Press. This series of surveys is available on Leger’s website.

  • 57% of Canadians and 51% of Americans think that the COVID-19 vaccine should be mandatory for all when it becomes available.
  • 70% of Canadians and 60% of Americans intend to get the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available.

IN THE NEWS: BACK TO SCHOOL

Asked to Canadians/Americans with school-age children

  • If school resumes and there is some form of in-classroom instruction, 59% of Canadians and 41% of Americans state they will send their children back to school in the fall.
  • If a student or teacher in their child’s class tested positive for COVID-19, 45% of Canadians would follow the school’s advice in terms of next steps, while 43% of Americans would keep their child at home indefinitely.

SURVEY METHODOLOGY

This web survey was conducted from July 24 to July 26, 2020, with 1,517 Canadians and 1,004 Americans, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.

Using data from the 2016 Census, the results were weighted by gender, age, mother tongue, region, education level and presence of children in the household in order to ensure a representative sample of the population.

For comparison, a probability sample of 1,517 respondents would have a margin of error of ±2.52%, 19 times out of 20, while a probability sample of 1,004 would have a margin of error of +3.09%, 19 times out of 20. The research results presented here are in full compliance with the CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards and Disclosure Requirements.
