In June 2022, Leger conducted a survey of 1,000 Americans to explore their gaming habits and examine trends among young lottery players (aged 18-29). Simon Jaworski, Executive Vice-President, USA, recently shared the insights from this survey in an article in Public Gaming Magazine titled Under 30? Underwhelmed!

SOME OF THE KEY FINDINGS ABOUT YOUNG LOTTERY PLAYERS INCLUDE…

  • Among young lottery players (aged 18-29), mobile games (38%) and console games (36%) are the two dominant gaming modes.
  • No (0%) 18-29-year-old young lottery players who purchased scratch tickets in the last year say that they think scratch tickets are the most fun game.
  • Young players generally want three or four common factors for pleasure: something in their hand (sensory or control), for it to be easily accessible from home (comfort zone) or to be able to play whenever they want (instant gratification) or wherever they want (mobile).
  • While 69% of Americans were aware of the second-largest Mega Millions® jackpot in history ($1.28 billion), this number was strongly and significantly lower among 18-29-year-olds, at just 37% (and only 10% of this age range bought a ticket).
