Alan’s 25-year practitioner career includes marketing roles with the Universal Oil Products Company (UOP Inc.), Esso Petroleum, and in advertising with the J. Walter Thompson (JWT) advertising agency, concluding as President/CEO of JWT Japan and Executive Vice-President and a Board Director of the worldwide company.
His 26-year academic career includes teaching at the Rutgers Graduate School of Business in the U.S. and leading business schools in Argentina, China, India, Russia, and Thailand. He also served as Executive Director at the Schulich School of Business. Alan co-authored several published books, papers, and book chapters.
He is a co-founder of the Cassie advertising awards, is a member of the Canadian Marketing Hall of Legends and holds the ACA Gold Medal for contributions to the marketing industry, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to the literacy movement, and the International Association of Business Communicators Toronto Communicator of the Year award.
