Multiple times a year, all WIN members conduct research on various subjects that interest the global population.

In an era of mounting wellness consciousness, the 2025 WIN Worldview Health Survey offers a timely snapshot of how Americans perceive their health and navigate their everyday health-related habits. This global survey—spanning nearly 35,000 respondents across multiple countries—uncovers notable patterns that shed light on where the United States stands and where it may be heading next.

Leger conducted the study in the United States and Canada.

Americans Feel Healthy—But That Confidence Has Limits

In 2025, 70% of Americans say they feel “healthy” or “very healthy.” While this signals a generally positive self-image, it’s slightly below the global average of 74%.

This sense of personal health is promising, but it doesn’t always translate into consistent prioritization. Just over half (52%) of Americans say they frequently focus on healthy living, leaving a significant portion of the population who may feel healthy—but are not actively reinforcing that health through everyday behaviors​.

This disconnect underscores an important insight: Americans are confident in their well-being, but that confidence may be shaped more by perception than by habit.

Healthy Self-Perception Does Not Always Reflect Healthy Habits

While most Americans say they feel healthy, their day-to-day behaviors only partially back it up. Encouragingly, 48% of U.S. adults exercise regularly, slightly ahead of the global average of 43%​. 

However, other foundational behaviors are less aligned with global norms. Only 51% of Americans say they sleep well regularly, trailing the global average of 62%—despite growing awareness of sleep’s role in immune function, mental clarity, and stress management​. And when it comes to stress itself, the U.S. stands out in a more concerning way: 46% of Americans report regularly suffering from stress frequently, compared to just 33% globally.

Preventive wellness behaviors, on the other hand, are where Americans lead. 57% take vitamin supplements frequently, far surpassing the global average of 34%. Likewise, 55% of U.S. respondents regularly avoid products that trigger allergic reactions, compared to 40% globally—a reflection of both heightened personal health awareness and strong consumer engagement with health-labeled products​.

Screen Time Takes a Toll on Health

Technology’s role in shaping health is becoming impossible to ignore. 40% of Americans indicate they frequently stay up late using screens, cutting into essential sleep hours—a behavior that directly undermines recovery and mental focus​. This is higher than the global average of 27%, showing that the U.S. is above global norms when it comes to sleep disruption driven by screen use​

In addition, 28% of Americans report physical discomfort such as eye strain, headaches, or poor posture from prolonged device use. Perhaps most concerning, 24% say excessive screen time has negatively impacted their mental health, contributing to anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges​.

The Path Forward

In 2025, Americans feel confident about their health—but their habits don’t always match. Stress, poor sleep, and screen time often get in the way of staying well.

The opportunity for health leaders and wellness brands is clear: help people turn good intentions into everyday actions. The future of health lies in making it easier to live well—without adding complexity to modern life.
