Canada as the 51st State

December 10, 2024

From December 6 to 9, 2024, we surveyed Canadians on if Canada should become the 51st state of the United States.

Highlights include…

  • 13% of Canadians say that they would like Canada to become the 51st state of the United States. 82% say they would not like the idea.
  • Conservative (21%) and People’s Party (25%) voters are more likely to be in favour of Canada joining the United States.

Methodology

This web survey was conducted from December 6 to December 9, 2024, with 1,520 Canadians aged 18 or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel. A margin of error cannot be associated with a non-probability sample in a panel survey.

For comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size yields a margin of error no greater than ±2.50%, (19 times out of 20) for the Canadian sample.
