Vaccine passports, back-to-school concerns and the Delta Variant – September 3, 2021

September 3, 2021

THIS SURVEY EXPLORES CANADIANS’ AND AMERICANS’ VIEWS ON VACCINE PASSPORTS, BACK-TO-SCHOOL, AND THE DELTA VARIANT.

In this edition, we again asked Canadians and Americans if they supported the introduction of a vaccination passport in their province/state. The passport came into effect in Quebec on September 1. It will be imposed in Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba in the coming weeks.

We also explored their perspectives on going back to school this Fall, especially with respect to the Delta Variant

This survey is conducted in collaboration with the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) and published in the Canadian Press. This series of surveys is available on Leger’s website.

Evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada

METHODOLOGY

This web survey was conducted from August 27 to August 29, 2021 with 1,544 Canadians and 1,004 Americans, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.

For comparison, a probability sample of 1,544 respondents would have a margin of error of ±2.49%, 19 times out of 20, while a probability sample of 1,004 would have a margin of error of ±3.09%, 19 times out of 20.

THIS REPORT CONTAINS THE RESULTS FOR THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS AND MORE!

  • Elementary and high schools are planning to re-open in the next week or so. Does this make you more worried, less worried or not change your concerns toward personally contracting the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus?
  • Certain provincial governments have announced the implementation of a vaccine passport. This proof of vaccination will be required to visit certain public places deemed “non-essential” such as bars, restaurants, gyms, concert halls, or festivals, and where many people are present. To what extent would you support or oppose the introduction of a vaccine passport in your province?
  • What statement best describes your personal opinion of the COVID-19 crisis for Canada?
