HOLIDAY PLANS

  • 71% of Canadians and 51% of Americans have changed their holiday plans due to the COVID-19 situation.
  • 45% of Canadians and 42% of Americans are afraid of being exposed to COVID-19 at holiday gatherings with family and friends.
  • 60% of Canadians support a total ban on holiday gatherings (except those among people who live in the same household). Americans are virtually equally split on whether they support (42%) or oppose (41%) a total ban.

A COVID-19 VACCINE

  • 48% of Canadians are not overly concerned about Canada potentially receiving doses of a new COVID-19 vaccine after certain other countries, and feel that a few months won’t make much of a difference. In contrast, 37% are very concerned that Canada may not receive doses of a new COVID-19 vaccine at the same time as certain other countries, and feel we need to get vaccinations started as soon as possible.
  • 28% of Canadians indicate they would take the first COVID-19 vaccine available to the public (a decrease of 9 percentage points since mid-November). 45% indicate they would wait for other vaccines to be available (an increase of 12 percentage points since mid-November).
  • 9% of Canadians and 21% of Americans think vaccines are dangerous and should not be taken or given.

SURVEY METHODOLOGY

This web survey was conducted from November 27-29, 2020, with 1,516 Canadians and 1,002 Americans, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.

For comparison, a probability sample of 1,516 respondents would have a margin of error of ±2.51%, 19 times out of 20, while a probability sample of 1,002 would have a margin of error of ±3.09%, 19 times out of 20.
