Quebec Voting Intentions: Good Week for Fréchette, but Desire for Change Remains Strong

Less than a month before the October 5 election, the balance of power has changed little, but voting choices are beginning to solidify. Voting intentions have changed little from one week to the next, while 56% of decided voters now consider their choice final, a gradual increase since June.

The PQ remains in first place at 29%, while the CAQ at 23% and the PLQ at 22% remain close behind. After significant shifts in the spring, voting intentions have changed little in recent weeks.

The CAQ’s rebound is nevertheless notable when looking further back. After reaching a low of 9% in March, it now stands at 23% in voting intentions. The PLQ has followed the opposite trajectory over the same period, falling from 33% to 22%, while the PQ has moved from 33% to 29%.

Christine Fréchette is having a strong campaign and improving her position on leadership measures, but she faces a broadly held desire for change. 60% of Quebecers want a change in government and a new party to lead Quebec, compared with 18% who want the government to remain in power.

On the question of who would make the best premier, Fréchette is tied with Paul St-Pierre Plamondon at 23%, up five points since August 11. She is also the leader most often identified as having run the best campaign this week, with 21% of mentions, compared with 15% for PSPP.

The findings on the issues show a campaign in which leaders occupy fairly distinct territories. Christine Fréchette leads on defending Quebec’s interests and fighting Donald Trump’s tariffs (24%), as well as on developing the economy and creating jobs (22%). Paul St-Pierre Plamondon leads on immigration (25%). Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and Éric Duhaime stand out on reducing government spending and the deficit (17% and 16%, respectively), while Ruba Ghazal leads on making housing more affordable (17%, tied with PSPP).

This online survey was conducted from September 4 to 6, 2026, among 1,008 Quebecers aged 18 or older who are eligible to vote, recruited randomly from the LEO online panel. Results were weighted by age, gender, mother tongue, region, education and presence of children in the household. For comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size would have a maximum margin of error of ±3.09%, 19 times out of 20.
