Leger recently surveyed Albertans about Alberta politics, including their perspectives on free speech on university campuses, whether things are going in the right or wrong direction in the province, who they think would make the best premier of Alberta and more.

- Most Albertans support free speech on university campuses and agree that universities should ensure that free speech can take place safely.
- Those who would be more likely to vote for the United Conservative Party support greater freedom of speech on university campuses and agree more that universities should ensure that free speech can take place safely (compared to those who would be more likely to vote for the NDP).
- 34% of Albertans think Rachel Notley would make the best premier of Alberta, followed by Danielle Smith (29%).
- 53% of Albertans feel things in Alberta are going in the wrong direction.
- Overall, Albertans are quite critical of government actions. With the exception of the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, negative perceptions outnumber positive ones.
- If a provincial election were held today, 47% of decided voters would vote for the NDP and 43% would vote for the UCP.
SURVEY METHODOLOGY
- A total of n=1,002 online surveys were conducted among Albertans aged 18 or older via Leger’s LEO panel.
- The survey was conducted from February 10 to 12, 2023, using computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) technology.
- Using data from the 2021 Census, the results were weighted according to age, gender, and region in order to ensure a representative sample of the population.
- As a non-random internet survey, a margin of error is not reported. If the data were collected through a random sample, the margin of error for a sample size of n=1,002 would be ±3.1%, 19 times out of 20.
