British Columbia Opinion Poll

October 2, 2020

From September 4-6, 2020, Leger conducted an online survey among British Columbia residents about several topics of interest.

Some of the topics that the survey explores include:

  • The impact of various factors and activities on British Columbians’ mental health during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in B.C.
  • The items that British Columbians are most stressed and/or anxious about, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Concerns related to CERB payments ending (among those who are on the CERB)
  • And other topics, including visiting attractions during COVID-19, the Vancouver Canucks, and beverage containers at take-out/drive-through/fast food restaurants

SOME OF THE KEY FINDINGS FROM OUR SURVEY INCLUDE:

  • B.C. residents are more worried about their family members’ health, social isolation, and the economic slowdown in B.C.
  • Nearly six in ten (58%) of those receiving CERB payments are worried about the CERB ending.
  • Overall, B.C. residents are still feeling uncomfortable visiting cultural and local attractions due to the situation with COVID-19. Visiting outdoor tourist attractions is perceived to be safer.

SURVEY METHODOLOGY

  • A total of 1,001 online surveys were conducted among residents of British Columbia via Leger’s online panel, LEO. The surveys were conducted from September 4-6, 2020.
  • As a non-random internet survey, a margin of error is not reported. If the data were collected through a random sample, the margin of error would be ±3.1%, 19 times out of 20.
  • Using data from the 2016 Census, results were weighted according to age, gender and region in order to ensure a representative sample of the population.
