British Columbians’ Travel Plans and Views on the Vaccine Rollout

May 27, 2021

From May 7-9, 2021, on behalf of Postmedia, Leger conducted an online survey among British Columbians to explore their travel plans, their views on the vaccine rollout, the impact of the pandemic on their relationships, and more.

SOME OF THE KEY FINDINGS OF OUR SURVEY INCLUDE…

  • Forty percent of British Columbians have travelled for non-essential reasons in the past three months, while only 26% intend to travel in the next three months.
  • 77% of British Columbians agree the government should enforce provincial travel restrictions and residents should be fined for violating travel orders.
  • Slightly more of those who are currently unvaccinated (36%) would rather be vaccinated as soon as possible and will accept any available vaccine, rather than wait to choose which type of vaccine they receive (32%).
  • One quarter (24%) of British Columbia residents have criticized their friends for not following a public health order (PHO), while only 7% have been criticized by their friends.
  • More than one-third (36%) of working British Columbians say their work/life balance is worse.

SURVEY METHODOLOGY

  • 1,000 residents of British Columbia aged 18 or older were surveyed online using Leger’s online panel, LEO, from May 7-9, 2021.
  • Using data from the 2016 Census, the results were weighted according to age, gender, and region in order to ensure a representative sample of the population in British Columbia.
  • No margin of error can be associated with a non-probability sample. However, for comparative purposes, a probability sample of 1,000 respondents would have a margin of error of ±3.1%, 19 times out of 20.
