Canadian Healthcare

August 8, 2024

From August 2 to 4, 2024, we surveyed Canadians to find out about their opinion and perceptions of the healthcare system in Canada.

Some of the key highlights of our survey about Healthcare in Canada include…

  • More than half of Canadians (53%) think the healthcare system in their province is poor, while 44% think it is good. Ontarians (50%) are more likely to think their healthcare system is good, while respondents living in the Atlantic provinces (70%) are more likely to think it is poor.
  • Compared to January 2023, when we last surveyed Canadians on the healthcare system, there is a significant 10-point increase in respondents saying the healthcare system in their province is poor (53% in 2024 vs 43%).
  • A vast majority of Canadians (85%) are worried about the state of their province’s healthcare system, and about the same proportion (87%) think there is a shortage of nurses in their province.
  • Despite these perceptions, 68% of Canadians who have visited the emergency room or have visited for a family member during their lifetime would rate their experience as a good one.

Methodology

This web survey was conducted from August 2 to August 4, 2024, with 1,521 Canadians aged 18 or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel. A margin of error cannot be associated with a non-probability sample in a panel survey.

For comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size yields a margin of error no greater than ±2.51%, (19 times out of 20) for the Canadian sample.
