January 26, 2022

The 2021 edition of the WIN World Survey (WWS) explored perspectives on climate change and sustainability. This survey is conducted annually by the Worldwide Independent Network of Market Research (WIN International), of which Leger is a founding member.

  • 86% of respondents agree global warming is a serious threat for mankind (including 86% of Canadians and 72% of Americans).
  • 81% of respondents agree that natural disasters have increased because of global warming (including 78% of Canadians and 67% of Americans).
  • 80% of respondents agree their personal actions can improve the environment (including 82% of Canadians and 75% of Americans).
  • 70% of respondents agree the real efforts on sustainability and the environment need to be taken by businesses and governments, rather than individuals (including 65% of Canadians and 60% of Americans).
  • 68% of respondents agree they are willing to pay more for a product that takes care of the environment (including 66% of Canadians and 57% of Americans).
  • 44% of respondents agree governments are taking the necessary actions to take care of the environment (including 32% of Canadians and 32% of Americans).
  • 43% of respondents agree it is already too late to curtail climate change (including 33% of Canadians and 28% of Americans).

As noted by Vilma Scarpino, President, WIN International, “The WIN Worldwide Survey evidences the increasing concern about climate change and an urgent call to action. People around the world believe that their actions can contribute, but governments should take action. There is a strong perception that what is being done is not enough and it is not too late, although perceptions vary from country to country.”
