February 16, 2023

On behalf of Postmedia, Leger surveyed Canadians about their perspectives on the just transition plan from January 27 to 29, 2023.

SOME OF THE KEY HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR SURVEY ON CANADA’S JUST TRANSITION PLAN INCLUDE…

  • 84% of Canadians have not read, heard, or seen anything about Canada’s just transition plan that looks at the structure of Canada’s economy in the future.
  • 53% of Canadians believe the just transition plan is a plan to help workers who lose their jobs as a result of climate change policies and a shift to low-carbon industries.
  • 56% of Canadians are not confident that the federal government will be able to ensure displaced workers find good paying replacement jobs.
  • 52% of Canadians agree that the just transition plan to move Canada’s economy away from fossil fuels is the right approach for Canada.
  • 38% of Canadians believe the efforts to change Canada’s economy to a low-carbon one are moving too slow.

SURVEY METHODOLOGY

  • A web survey was conducted among 1,526 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, via Leger’s online panel, LEO.
  • The data was collected from January 27 to 29, 2023.
  • As a non-probability online survey, a margin of error is technically not reported. If the data were collected through a probability sample, the margin of error would be ±2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
  • Using data from the 2021 census, the results were weighted according to age, gender and region, as well as by education and presence of children in the household in order to ensure a representative sample of the population.
