As part of the 25th edition of our annual Reputation study, we are proud to unveil the list of the most reputable professional sports teams in Canada in 2022, according to Canadians.
In 2022, professional sports teams were added to our Reputation study for the first time. Like many other sectors in Canada, professional sports teams were heavily impacted by the pandemic. Many played entire seasons without any fans present or with minimal fans present due to social distancing regulations.
We know that teams’ reputations are impacted by many factors, including awareness, team performance, players (and their behaviour on and off the field or ice) and more.
Interestingly, our 2022 Reputation study revealed that the teams with the highest awareness did not necessarily have the highest reputation scores. We found that while most of the sports teams we surveyed Canadians about had fairly high awareness, bad opinion scores were also high.
We were also surprised that the Montreal Canadiens did not make it into the top 10 most reputable professional sports teams list, even though they are part of the NHL’s Original Six and many Canadians are aware of them. As fans return to stadiums, arenas, and fields across Canada, we will continue to monitor Canada’s most reputable sports teams through our annual Reputation study.
