Political Alignment of Newcomers to Canada

18 April 2024

Following the release of our recent study, Cracking the Newcomer Code, Leger surveyed newcomers to Canada on their political alignment with Canadian political parties and which party they find themselves agreeing with more often.

This study shows that…

  • 24% of newcomers to Canada find themselves agreeing most with the Conservative Party of Canada, while 22% say that they agree most with the Liberal Party of Canada.
  • Among newcomers, 38% do not know which party they align with the most.

Methodology

This web survey was conducted from December 14, 2023, and February 16, 2024, with 2,104 newcomers to Canada aged 18 or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel. A margin of error cannot be associated with a non-probability sample in a panel survey. For comparison, a probability sample of 2,104 respondents would have a margin of error of ±2.1%, 19 times out of 20.
